Overview

Union public service commission is also known as UPSC. A very common name used by the people of India. Most of people don’t know the details about the USPC. UPSC is the apex requirement body of the country also holds the place in the constitution of India.  The UPSC described in the Indian Constitution Part 14th. The article 315 comprised the details about the Union Public Services Commission.

History of UPSC

The history of civil services in India introduced in 1854. That time the exam was conducted by the British Government. The maximum age was 23 years and minimum age was 18 years for the aspirants. The Difficulties was very high because syllabus was designed by the Britishers. In 1864, the first Indian Shri Satyendra Nath Tagore brother of Shri Ravindra Nath Tagore Succeeded.

The major changes came in the Civil Services after 1919 act was passed and recommended a Public service commission. The Royal Commission appointed for that the Royal commission was also known as Lee Commission. This commission made the recommendation in 1924. The Public services commission was setup on October 1, 1926. After the 1935 act came the Public Services commission became Federal Services Commission on 1st April 1937.

On 26th January 1950 the Federal Service Commission become Union Public Service Commission and the Chairman of Federal Services commission became the chairmen of UPSC according to Article 378 (1).

UPSC Composition

The UPSC consists 9 to 11 members. Generally, one chairman and rest of the all are the members. The Chairman appointed by the President of India and members are appointed by the Chairman.
